Mia’s Fav Yam Mash (Mashed Sweet Potatoes)

My daughter’s favorite yam mash!

Yield: 6-8 servings

Cooking Time: 45-60 minutes

ingredients

  • 6 yams, roasted until "mushy"

  • 4 tablespoons cinnamon (to regulate blood sugar)

  • 2 teaspoons cardamom

  • 2 tablespoons coriander

  • 1/4 cup fresh ginger, grated, or 1 teaspoon powdered ginger

  • 1 or 2 shakes of turmeric

  • 1/2 stick ghee or goat butter

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Wash and scrub the yams, then place them on a baking sheet. Roast in the preheated oven until the yams become "mushy." This typically takes about 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the yams.

  3. While the yams are roasting, prepare the spice mixture. In a bowl, combine cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, grated or powdered ginger, turmeric, and ghee or goat butter.

  4. Once the yams are "mushy," remove them from the oven.

  5. While the yams are still hot, carefully peel off the skin and place the soft flesh in a mixing bowl.

  6. Add the spice mixture to the roasted yams.

  7. Mash and mix the yams and spices together until well combined.

  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
